We are looking for support from the local community to improve a dangerous section of pavement on the border of Wandsworth and Richmond boroughs where Mill Hill Road from Barnes joins the Lower Richmond Road from Putney.

The section is near Putney Lower Common Cemetery where cars park. Friday nights especially are extremely busy along this stretch of pavement with many parents and children of all ages walking, scooting and cycling from Putney to play sport at Rocks lane (for the popular Friday night fives/High fives league matches).

The problem occurs when cars park at the further end of this parking location as it leaves no room on the pavement for parents and children to get past without being pushed onto the road (and oncoming traffic).

This is particularly dangerous as it is:

1. A very fast stretch of road where drivers would not expect people to be in the road
2. Extremely narrow in terms of width of the road. At rush hour cars back up on the opposite side and push larger buses and lorries right up against the kerb.
3. It is also an extremely dark section of this road with no lighting in the exact place where people are having to step into the road.
4. There is no alternative pavement on the other side of the road to use.

Many of us take our children to sports fixtures almost every week and often something happen that is potentially very dangerous We feel it is only a matter of time before someone gets hit by a car or lorry.

We have tried writing to Richmond and Wandsworth Councils but as yet we have had little by way of response so we are hoping, that with support from the broader community, we can get faster action.

Many Thanks in advance for your support and do please pass this on to anyone that may be interested in signing it.

Best Wishes,

Sophie Holdcroft and Alex Turner (concerned local parents)
