Traffic calming at Otis and 10th Street NE

As Brookland residents who live and commute near the Otis and 10th Street NE intersection, we worry about our own safety and the safety of our neighbors who cross this dangerous intersection on a daily basis. Pedestrian commuters must frequently dodge drivers, who in an attempt to navigate the traffic at the intersection, place others in harm's way. We have yet to witness an accident at this intersection and hope to prevent future accidents by supporting this petition.

We petition the ANC and the District Department of Transportation to make Otis Street one-way (east bound) between 10th and 12th street NE. DDOT conducted a Traffic Calming Assessment at 10th Street NE and Michigan Avenue NE as part of the Brookland/Edgewood Liveability Study in 2015. Since the study's release, an increase in vehicular traffic has impacted the adjacent intersection at Otis Street and 10th Street NE. Making Otis Street one-way is an additional measure proposed by DDOT that would help mitigate the congestion at Otis Street and 10th Street NE and subsequently reduce congestion at Michigan Avenue and 10 Street NE.
