Trader Joe's touts itself as a sustainable and socially responsible company. They have a great selection of organic, fair trade, and socially responsible products. However, they continue to wrap much of their produce in a large amount of plastic packaging. It defeats the purpose of buying sustainable produce if it comes with such a large amount of plastic sourced from petroleum. Trader Joe's could follow the model of many other health food stores (and even many grocery stores!) and sell much of their produce loose. Additionally, they could sell mesh produce bags for customers and encourage the use of these (as they have done very well with reusable bags).
