Matthew Leon started this petition to Trader Joe's

“I then took a piece of rope and whipped her soundly, and she let forth such incredible screams that you would not have believed your ears. Eventually we came to such terms, I assure you, that you would have thought that she had been brought up in a school for whores.”

            -  Christopher Columbus, Letter to King Ferdinand

Christopher Columbus is no hero to be glorified. His ventures in the Caribbean involved torture and disfigurement of collected slaves for fun, the rape and sale of young girls for sex, and the beginning of the overall genocide of millions of Indigenous Peoples from their homeland.

Currently thirteen (13) states along with dozens of municipalities have replaced 'Columbus Day' with Indigenous People's Day.

This past year, thirty-five (35) Columbus statues and monuments have been removed or plan to be removed by cities across the country.

It is time for Trader Joe's to condemn colonization and white supremacy by removing a product named after a figure who's decisions were not only horrid for the times but still affect the dialogues and conditions of native populations today.
