Daisy Austin started this petition to Trader Joe's and

On February 9th, 2020 I lost my best friend, Willow, my 18 year-old cat, to acute kidney failure caused by lily toxicity. Although I knew lilies were extremely poisonous to cats, I did not realize a bouquet that my friend had gifted to me contained an unopened lily. I also did not intend to leave that bouquet of flowers out on my coffee table while I was at work. When I checked my cat cam that day, I saw the opened lily and sped home, but it was too late. Willow had brushed her face against the flower, and got pollen on her nose. Willow was hospitalized for several days and given IV fluids in an attempt to flush the toxins out of her kidneys, but the damage was done. Her kidneys went from early stage 3 to beyond late stage 4 of 4 kidney failure. It was the worst mistake of my life. She was my best friend for over 18 years. That's more than half of my life. While the daily guilt I feel is unbearable, I am trying to heal myself through raising awareness of feline lily toxicity.

This petition is to urge companies selling flowers to PLEASE LABEL LILIES AS POISONOUS TO CATS!  I have worked at an animal hospital since 2016, and have seen first-hand how poisonous lilies are to cats. Even before Willow's incident, I had made numerous, fruitless attempts to reach out to store managers at Trader Joe's and Kruger to bring awareness to feline lily toxicity. After Willow's death, I reached out to Trader Joe's, where the bouquet was from, and after back and forth correspondence they denied any responsibility for my loss. A simple sticker or label on bouquets of lilies and on bouquets containing lilies would be enough to save many, many lives. Most cat owners are not aware of lily toxicity.  Please share this story and petition to have companies that sell flowers attach a label to each arrangement containing lilies stating that LILIES ARE POISONOUS TO CATS!
