Keep Pools Open at Wellness Center Athens-Limestone Hospital

If the pools are closed it will critically effect the health and well-being of people who live and work in Limestone County. Athens-Limestone Hospital has always been considered a shining example of a good healthcare provider and one that cared for the members of this community. To take from them a major resource that contributes to their health and well-being will certainly have an adverse effect on that image.
Many physicians refer their patients to the pool facility for rehabilitation after surgery or after an accident. Others have been referred to prevent surgeries or to lessen the effect of a chronic illness. For many this has been a Godsend as they were unable to travel far or drive in heavy traffic or their work prevented them getting to a facility further away. The pool exercises provide a benefit unable to be performed in the gym.
Others have used the pool for lap swimming wanting to prevent health issues. It has also been used by the high school swim team and for swimming lessons. It has become a vital asset to this community and is a selling point to attract new homeowners to Athens, who are coming for the jobs created by the new industries.
Many of the Wellness Center members continued to pay their monthly dues through the pandemic even though they did not come, wanting to sacrificially financially support the Wellness Center through a difficult time. With this kind of commitment, it is believed that through a joint effort, some solution can be found whereby the pools can be saved.
