Ms Julia Squire
CEO Townsville Hospital and Health Service,

13 June 2015 The Townsville Bicycle User Group is organizing the Ride for Road Safety. The memory of Sue Bell, who was hit by a passing truck during her training ride, becomes a symbol for the unnecessary trauma and deaths of riders due to inadequate infrastructure and lack of driver awareness of vulnerable road users.

Last year a black armband was worn as a sign of mourning. This year we want to draw attention to the innocent blood spilled on public roads each year.

Considering the public health service is involved both through acute treatment in emergency department as well as preventative health measures to increase daily activity we are hoping to directly involve the Townsville Hospital and Health Service through their donation of red operation caps that can be worn over the helmet to attract attention/create awareness as a group during this free event.

Cycling, both conventional and electric, is an increasingly popular activity, accessible to almost all - to young and old, those with good or bad knees those with and without money. Please support the growth of cycling in Townsville.
