Colin Stern started this petition to Township of Plainsboro and

My name is Colin, and I have lived in the Princeton Collection in Plainsboro for 22 years. I am here because we need to ask the Township of Plainsboro and the New Jersey Department of Transportation to build a sidewalk to our neighborhood to connect us to the rest of town!

We are asking the Township and NJ DOT to prioritize the building of a sidewalk from the Collection to downtown Plainsboro along Schalks Crossing Road and to improve the Schalks Crossing Road Bridge since it is necessary to completing the sidewalk.

According to the NJ DOT, $8.7 million had been allocated in 2012 to replace the bridge deck and provide a shared bicycle/pedestrian sidewalk lane along both sides of Schalks Crossing Road. However, I’ve been using this bridge daily and there is no sign that this project has started.

The Township has been struggling to get this project off the ground since at least 2009, but the DOT continues to delay. This leaves our neighborhood isolated from town and accessible only by car. Residents who try to bike or walk along Schalks Crossing Road must do so on the road and put themselves in danger of being struck by cars.

The sidewalk would have far-reaching benefits for the community. Not to mention the convenience of being able to walk or bike to the library and shopping center, it could be a boon for local businesses and would make the Princeton Collection a more attractive place to live. Folks from downtown Plainsboro would benefit too, being able to reach the houses of their friends and family in the Collection without having to get in the car. Children from all of Plainsboro would no longer have to beg their parents to drive them to the houses of their inter-neighborhood friends. The building of this sidewalk will benefit all of us.

This petition can help make sure that this project gets done. Please help by signing.
