***UPDATE LAPS has euthanized one of the dogs and returned the other back to the original owner…***

Our innocent and beloved chihuahua, Frankie,  was MURDERED on the afternoon of July 15th 2021, by two off-leash pit bulls in the parking lot of Sandman Hotel in Walnut Grove (202 & 88th). 

Due to the “owner’s” negligence (unattended to and not tied up to anything) my mother had to watch her baby boy be mutilated, ripped apart, and KILLED. This “owner” was no where in sight until our Frankie was almost dead. They did NOTHING to stop the attack. My mom is severely traumatized and has injuries from the pit bulls attacking her while she was trying to save Frankie. Many bystanders (including approx. 8 Sandman Hotel staff) stood around and watched this happen, and did not attempt to help in any way. My mother had to ask for the police to be called after Frankie was DEAD!!

There is an open RCMP and LAPS file that is proving to be challenging. RCMP says it is not a police matter and has passed it onto LAPS. HOW IS THIS NOT A POLICE MATTER??? The owner needs to be held responsible for this!!!

Why is there no bridge between animal law and criminal law? The point of this petition is to create/ update legislation that bridges the gap between criminal law and animal control. We need a more successful deterrent to promote dog owners to act responsibly. Dogs shouldn’t be punished for their owners criminal negligence! Dog ownership legislation needs a reform!

We unfortunately know that we are not the only family who has experienced this type of nightmare; it happens far too often with no consequences to the owners! We need to band together and fight for legislation that holds dog owners criminallyresponsible for their animal’s actions. So, we are reaching out for support from our friends, family and community.
