On October 3, 2016, the township of Belleville lost a true, local hero with the passing of Bruce Morgan. It is impossible to imagine what Belleville youth recreation would look like today had there not been a Bruce Morgan. Not only did Bruce coach soccer, baseball, teeball, basketball, and softball; he also worked tiredlessly creating, implementing, and improving countless recreation programs for our town. Bruce was the founder of the Senior Basketball Recreation League, Belleville Baseball Commission, and TeeBall League which allowed all of our town's youth the opportunity to join a team and learn the values instilled through sportsmanship. In addition to being a member of many athletic advisory councils and committees, Bruce also founded and facilitated coaching clinics so that the young athletes of Belleville had coaches who they could not only learn from, but also look up to. His commitment to providing quality sports programs for Belleville's youth is second to none and quite simply, Bruce did more for youth recreation than anyone else in our town's history. He never once asked or looked for accolades or money - he did everything with the purest intention there could be - the kids. It is time we honor a man who selflessly gave so much to our town by renaming Belleville's Rec House the "Bruce Morgan Recreation House".
