Community Multigenerational Recreation Center

Dear fellow community members,
Our names are Thomas Beecher, Joe Graziano, Payton Humphrey and Tommy Carr, and we are a group of seniors working on a project for our Advanced Political and Legal Studies course at York High School. The purpose of our work for this class is to address a community issue that we find important.
The problem our group decided to work with was the issue of substance abuse in our community. Too many times have we seen friends, family members, classmates, etc suffer from the use and abuse of substances. This isn’t just an issue with those in our age group either, it’s something that affects everyone. Often you hear of the reactive steps taken in addressing this problem, but our goal was to come up with an idea that offered a preventative solution to substance abuse. While this solution isn’t going to cut out the problem completely it will definitely help in decreasing the amount of substance users and overdoses in our community. A multigenerational recreation center in town would offer a safe place where people of all ages could come and enjoy a variety of athletic and non athletic activities. This area will also help in creating new social connections and bring our community closer together. Besides us, York Parks and Recreation and Community Center Needs Assessment Committee has been working on researching the interest in a multigenerational center for the town of York. In order to be able to get the multigenerational recreation center onto the spring ballot we need 100 signatures from York residents.
