Angela Mason started this petition to Transportation Services Division (Town of Whitby)

The extension of Dunlop Street, immediately adjacent to the Trafalgar School property is currently underway. A new traffic signal is being built 65m north of the residential driveway located at 89 Garden St. As a result of this construction the town wants to eliminate the currently allowed parking on the East side of Garden Street, south of Dundas Street. The town will also be widening the street which will reduce the current size of each of the driveways located at #89, #87, #85, #83 and #81 Garden street. Ultimately this reduces the possibility to park a car parallel to Garden at the bottom of the driveways.

The impact of these decisions made by the town is extremely significant. The residents living on Garden Street already have limited parking options for guests. Once construction is completed, it will be impossible for the residents to have more than one guest with a vehicle visiting at a time. This is completely unacceptable.

The town of Whitby suggested our guests could park on Colette Dr. This would force people to park 350 meters from our home and cross 4 lanes of traffic where there is no cross walk. This is an unsafe and ridiculous solution.

We are petitioning with the goal of asking the town of Whitby to accommodate residents by building a 10-18 space parking lot on the East side of Garden Street directly across from the Dunlop Street extension. A photo of the suggested area is posted.

We are also asking the town to change the plans they have for widening Garden street. They could widen the street without impacting the East side of the street at all. The map they have designed shows they will remove portions of driveways. Since there are no homes on the West side of the street there would be no impact to residents if only the town would instead widen on the West side of Garden St. removing the grassy area beside the sidewalk.
