Wildlife Crossing Sign

Wildlife Crossing Sign
Why this petition matters

The town of Weymouth needs more “Wildlife Crossing Signs”. Starting at Whitman Pond in Weymouth MA. There are over 20 Geese, 10 Swans, 30 plus ducks, and other wildlife that cross the busy Middle Street multiple times daily. Half those animals are babies as the summer is a big season for baby bird births. A sign would help alert cars to slow down when approaching and have patience when stopped to let wildlife cross. We built these roads for travel but let’s not forget the animals that thrive to survive around us! I watch as these animals nearly get hit while trying to cross the street and it breaks my heart. A sign isn’t too much to ask for to make more people driving cars aware as they approach these areas heavily populated with wildlife. I jog a few times a week to the water and sat there and watched as the swans made their nests, laid their eggs and hatched 7 babies. They are now grown up with little grey peach feathers and clumsy feet splashing through the water. The geese had about 12 babies and quite often they follow me as I walk along the water. I watched today for the first time as the babies led the way across the street without a parent bird in front of them. It would make my heart happy to not worry about our wildlife! Please take a moment to sign this petition if not for our wildlife then at least to support me supporting our wildlife!
