A previous successful petition was launched earlier in the year to extend the times lighting was available to a large community of youth and adults who frequent the McCallum Park basketball courts.

This summer the Town of Victoria Park has rolled back the times that the lighting and therefore the facility as a whole is able to be utilised despite having 120 signatures on the original petition.

The lights now turn off at 8pm and prevent people who looked forward to getting a few hours of exercise after work the ability to do so.

McCallum Park is home to over 140 members who regularly converse in its Messenger chat to organise the games that see all courts usually occupied daily from 6pm til lights out.

The volume of occupants at this facility often makes it hard to get on a court for a regular game and an 8pm curfew is definitely a deterrent for some regulars to make the effort to come down at all.

The petition signatories want change and would like the Town of Victoria Park to extend the current lights off time to until 9pm.
