Tire shreds come from toxic tires. There is a reason that you can't just throw tires in the trash, it's not safe. The town of Taos has decided to install these same tires in our parks in lieu of non toxic wood chips or gravel. This decision was not made with proper research and consulting the citizens of Taos. After researching the matter we stand opposed to tire shreds in our parks because of potential risks of off gassing, ingestion, damage to our environment, etc. We, the undersigned, pledge to protect our children and families from dangerous toxins. We ask the Town of Taos to remove shredded crumb rubber from all of the Town's playgrounds and promise to never use it where children are playing. Crumb rubber can be dangerous to our children and families if inhaled or ingested, and can interfere with local wildlife. No study exists that has proven this material safe over time in a high-altitude, high-sun environment.
