We are members of the Village of Fair Haven water district, seasonal and permanent residents of the Village of Fair Haven or the Town of Sterling with private wells who would like the town to revisit and strengthen its well head protection plan by putting limits on the amount of water that can be drawn from the town and village’s aquifer.

The corporation Sterling Spring Water LLC has purchased the McIntyre Bait Farm and announced plans for a large groundwater extraction operation that could directly affect our municipal water supply. We request a moratorium on commercial development within one mile of the wells that supply our water until zoned protection is in place. Please sign this petition to save our municipal water supply for future generations.

Our aquifer supply is of unknown capacity and is is relatively shallow and vulnerable.  The addition of two new water districts in Sterling in the near future will add to demand for water. A large scale extraction operation in close proximity to our wells could lower the water table and change underground water movement increasing the chances of depletion and contamination.
