Teresa Soncin started this petition to Town of Newmarket

On October 4th, 2019, a murder occurred on my street at an AirBnB. Likely a drug deal gone bad, more than 15 bullets pierced the air while families were in their driveways and children rode by on bikes. Residents had complained about this house previous to this incident, but their complaints fell on deaf ears.

It's time to make our voices heard! There are many AirBnBs in Newmarket neighbourhoods. Some do serve a useful function, like short term stays for families of hospital patients. However, some properties are rented for ultra short time periods; some are rented for only days at a time. In the case of the Colter St. shooting, the owner didn't even live at the property: it was simply an income generating business.

This could happen in any neighbourhood with an AirBnB! Parties, drug deals, crimes --- right on your street, affecting your family's safety and your home's value.

We want the Town of Newmarket to follow in the footsteps of other communities that have already put regulations in place to protect their citizens.

Please sign our petition to tell the Town of Newmarket that ultra short term rentals have no business in being in our community.

Thank you for your support!
