Improve the intersection of Grove St & Hine Hill Rd in New Milford, CT.

The intersection of Grove Street & Hine Hill Road in New Milford, CT, has become very dangerous, and a solution is needed to remedy the issue. Please visit this Google Map Link to review the intersection in question and explore the different sightlines for yourself.
Those who travel through this interaction need no reminder of the danger this intersection poses to the residents of New Milford. However, for those that are looking for some context on why this petition, here is some context.
Most recently, on November 3, 2021, a severe accident happened at this intersection. There have been reports over the years that this intersection has been quite hazardous; here is from 2015 about another crash.
The traffic on Grove Street has increased over time. The roundabout recently completed at the interaction of Picket District and Still River has developed a traffic pattern that does not allow for any break in the line of cars for long periods. Additionally, the traffic coming from the right when stopped on Hine Hill is very hard to see, given the slight bend in Grove Street.
Those stopped on Hine Hill grow frustrated with waiting for a break in the traffic and decide to take a risky chance just to go! I fall into this trap.
Possible Solution
While transportation experts will ultimately be responsible for designing the solution for this intersection, here at some layman's recommendations;
- A Roundabout would allow for smooth traffic flow while giving the traffic on Hine Hill to enter Grove Street.
- Traffic Light - Place a Green, Yellow, Red Light that would be on a sensor on Hine Hill. This might not be the best solution, given the sightlines on the intersection.
At the end of the day, something needs to be done! We need Mayor Pete and the Department of Public Works to advocate the State of CT to provide a solution for this intersection.
