We the undersigned residents of New Canaan, Ct petition the Town of New Canaan and it’s relevant Boards, Councils, Commissions and Committees to perform due diligence concerning the requested $10,000,000 and to act upon the directive in New Canaan’s Plan of Conservation and Development to “encourage the preservation of historic buildings.” This petition does not directly question the New Canaan Library's needs nor  their proposed new building design. It asks that the Library allow the retention of the original Landmark 1913 Library building as a stand-alone structure in its original, iconic location. The undersigned ask of the Town of New  Canaan not to approve Town funds towards the destruction of our community’s built heritage by including in any approval of funds, the agreement to allow a year for the development of a proposal for the preservation, design, funding and use of the 1913 library building in its original location.
