Midale Campground: Taxpayers will pay, have you had your say?

I was recently informed that the Town of Midale is planning on building a campground adjacent to the sports grounds. This information is not widely known. I attended a town meeting on September 12, 2017 to discuss the campground and my concerns.
The construction of the campground is set to begin in the spring of 2018. The cost of this project is yet to be determined. Ten campsites will be created. A town survey will not take place to determine whether the residents of Midale are interested in the campground- even though taxpayer dollars will fund the project. The campground will not generate revenue and it will take several years before the cost of building the campground will be recovered. The hope is that the campground will be self-sustaining but this cannot be guaranteed and it may need to be further subsidized with taxpayer dollars. Consideration was not given to the fact that Midale once had a campground that was not successful and later removed.
Booking and payment for the campground will take place through the town office. The town maintenance staff will handle campground maintenance issues on top of their current duties. No changes will be made to handle additional traffic through the area even though it is heavily populated with children both during school hours and after hours. The campground will not be directly managed. Safety concerns and other problems will be handled by the RCMP.
A summary of questions asked and answered at the meeting is available for those interested. The town council reserves the right to go ahead with this project without consulting the taxpayers of Midale. Please consider signing the petition to stop the construction of the Midale Campground.
