North Mecklenburg Communities United started this petition to Town of Huntersville and

Concerned citizens addressed the Huntersville Town Board requesting them not to approve the land exchange in which a portion of the Dellwood Center's Property will belong to the Bowman Development Group.  The Dellwood Center is an existing part of Rosenwald Schools that were built in the 1920's by the Afro- American of Huntersville with matching grants from philanthropist Julius Rosenwald of Sears and Roebuck.  The building currently is not designated as a historic landmark because the historic architectural features such as windows and wood floors were removed during renovations.  With effort and money, these features can be retrofitted to bring the building back to its historic form.

On current Center property, the Bowman Group plans to form a U-shaped road around the building with 2 entrances onto Dellwood Dr.  They plan to use the Center property to build homes for inclusion in their proposed Valea Village subdivision.  Just think about those plans.  Those plans are intrusive, and they will reduce the center's integrity as a historic site.  Chances of getting the site protected as an official historic site will be nearly impossible. There will be no turning back once construction begins so LET'S STOP IT NOW!!

We, the Afro-American community of Huntersville, North Mecklenburg Communities United, Associates and other concerned citizens urge our leaders in town government to act NOW to cease the land exchange resolution with Bowman Development Group, effective immediately.
