Cats are at risk outdoors, and outdoor cats also contribute to the cat overpopulation problem. Bird populations are decreasing across Canada, and outdoor cats add to the risks that birds face. Nature Canada, the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association all recommend that cats be kept from roaming outdoors unsupervised. We the undersigned call on the Town of Gibsons and the SCRD to adopt a no-roam bylaw for cats to improve the welfare of cats and protect wild birds in our community.
