Lower the speed limit for a safer greenway crossing on Bailey Road.

The new greenway pedestrian crossing on Bailey Road in Cornelius is unsafe at this time. This brand new greenway is used all day, everyday, by families. People are also walking pets, elderly people strolling, children on bikes, and runners. Many of these people are wearing headphones as well. Although there is a flashing crossing sign, there have already been several near misses to a tragic accident because of the speed limit. Traveling from highway 115 down Bailey Road, the speed limit is 45mph. After coming through the sharp turn they are traveling downhill, the pedestrian crosswalk is only 300 feet away. Therefore, people going 45mph or more are having a difficult time stopping for pedestrians. This part of the road is state maintained, and we are looking to them to lower the speed limit before something awful happens. We ask you to sign our petition and the spread the word in effort to make this a safe and enjoyable greenway for everyone! Please don't wait to make this change!
