Pets and others are affected horribly by the fireworks in our community. We need a designated time and more control over when people in our community can have fireworks so pets and people affected by them can get ready and prepared for them. There needs to be a designated time for when fireworks should be allowed and should only be during special occasions. I don’t want to take the fun away from people, I just want to make it enjoyable for everyone. On new year this year I was more nervous for the clock to strike midnight then I was for the new year.

I have first hand experience with a 11, almost 12 year old dog who has severe anxiety when it comes to loud noises and fireworks make it ten times worse. He hyperventilates, shakes uncontrollably, cries, and sometimes hides. He does not sleep after because he is on high alert the whole night. He’s old so it’s not the safest giving him medication to make him sleep through it and I know others go through the same thing.

Not just animals are affected by the loud noise and flashing lights the fireworks make. There are children, adults and elderly that suffer from fears of loud noises or other health issues that make people putting off fireworks multiple nights in a row very difficult for them.

People this year, put them off multiple nights in a row and our dog was sound asleep finally relaxed from the night before only to be woken startled by the loud noises.

We preach having respect for humans so why can’t we have some respect for animals too. They deserve the respect. They give us unconditional love, stay by our sides when they know we need them, so we should do the same for them.
