Build a park on the south side of Calmar!

In 2005 the Town of Calmar chose to accept monetary funds from the developer of Southbridge in lieu of allocating a section of land within Southbridge for a park. The residents of Calmar are now asking the Town of Calmar to use those funds to build a park on the south side of Highway 39. Although we understand that Southbridge is no longer zoned for a park, we have been made aware that there is potential for a park to be included in the plans for the new ball diamonds. This petition is to show that the residents of Calmar would like the Town to review this option, and make every effort possible to include a park in this upgrade. There is currently one small playground structure at the ball diamonds. That little playground is outdated and is not a large enough structure to accommodate the growing number of children that reside on the south side of Calmar. Ideally, this new park would be suitable for children of all ages and would be designed with toddlers, preschoolers and school age children in mind. Children residing on the south side of Calmar must walk a considerable distance - which includes crossing Highway 39 - in order to enjoy the larger and more current parks available on the north side of Calmar. Our community needs more outlets for our children to enjoy being kids, and a new park on the south side of Calmar will provide more children with the ability to get out and play.
