Providing a communal reusable shopping bag bin at Hawaiian Bassendean Shopping Centre

I have written to four stakeholders who are part of the Bassendean Community - Hawaiian Shopping Centre, the Town of Bassendean Council, Dave Kelly (WA Labor ), and Sarah Quinton (Greens candidate for Bassendean) - to look at ways to overcome barriers to the use of reusable plastic bags by customers and the provision of plastic bags by retailers, and ensure the use of reusable shopping bags is accessible to everyone.

I have proposed a communal reusable shopping bag bin to be placed at the Hawaiian Bassendean Shopping Centre whereby community members can donate their own reusable shopping bags for other customers to use. This would make it incredibly easy for people who cannot afford to purchase reusable shopping bags to grab a couple of bags from the communal bin and use for their shopping, or for people who forget their own reusable shopping bags to quickly pick up a donated shopping bag for their shopping trip.

I am hoping to generate the level of community interest in such an initiative, so please, if you love our beautiful planet even the tiniest bit and want to take one super small step toward being more environmentally friendly, please sign the petition! :)
