It's recently been brought to the attention of our community that a registered sex offender (75 year old Thomas Franklin Hall) resides directly across from a Reedsport, Oregon Elementary school, less than 100 yards from a Junior high/High School and approximately 20 yards from a park. Hall has been convicted in sex crimes on minors under the age of 16 and convicted of being in possession of child pornography. Under current state and local (These requirements can be found in ORS 144.641-642.) For sex offenders off of supervision, no residential requirements apply. Unfortunately that means our local law isn't providing protection for children. Living in a very small community many of our very young children walk to and from school passing right by a registered sex offender daily putting them at very high risk of being assaulted. I am, together with my community, petitioning our local government to change the local sex offender residency laws to prevent sex offenders from living within a minimum distance of 300 yards from school and parks.
