Introduce bylaw to allow hen keeping within the town of Sexsmith.

This petition had 48 supporters

This is a petition to raise support in favor of urban hen keeping from the members of the Sexsmith town council.

Urban chicken husbandry is rapidly becoming a major source of food production within neighbourhoods, towns and cities across Canada.  It is not only fun and rewarding, it is also a great source of food, education and community bonding between members of the urban farming community.

As members of a growing community, it is our duty to provide sources of opportunity for those who currently, and who will reside within the limits of the town.  Urban farming will provide such opportunities for town residents and local agricultural producers to come together in ways not normally seen in other small communities.

Urban chicken farming has been gathering a great deal of local momentum recently. This is in no small part due to the fact that it's easy, inexpensive, and economical!

Keeping one's own chickens offers benefits like the ability to harvest your own eggs. Chickens are comparatively quiet, produce less waste than an average sized dog, and are relatively inexpensive to keep.

This petition asks that the Town Council consider instituting a bylaw permitting individuals within the Town of Sexsmith to own a small number of chickens for personal food use.

Together, we can teach our children and each other about the value of producing and harvesting your own food.  Please take a moment to sign this petition and pass it along to others who are also interested in this initiative.
