The background to this petition is as follows:
1. “According to the St. Pierre RCMP, property crime in Niverville has gone up 45 percent in the first quarter of 2017 since the same period in 2016.”(The Niverville Citizen, June 2017)
2. Based on the population percent change from 2011 to 2016 (+30.2%), should this trend continue, Niverville will surpass 5,000 residents by 2018.
3. Town Council has stated that they only plan to re-evaluate Niverville’s police services in 2021 while our need is immediate based on the elevating crime rate.
We petition The Town Council of Niverville Manitoba as follows:
We the residents of Niverville Manitoba request that Town Council immediately develop a feasibility study to determine the effectiveness of establishing its own police service as an alternative to utilizing the services of the RCMP.
We request that the development of this study be complete before the end of November 2017.
