Abdul Miah started this petition to Tower Hamlets MP and

Yunus was detained on the 9th July 2019 for parking his car on a single yellow line. The police used excessive and unnecessary force in detaining him which included punching, kneeing and choking because he was asking why the police wanted to arrest him. There is clear indisputable video evidence of the entire incident leading upto the events. With him was his wife and his disabled child in the car, with use of a disable badge.

It’s funny how police pick and choose their fights! I would love to see them show the same courage and tackle real criminals the way they did with this father. This behaviour by the police can only be described as cowardly!

There is an official statement from the police of Tower hamlets about Yunus fighting back; however, there is clear indisputable video evidence that he did not fight back, on the contrary he was trying to pull away from the aggressive behaviour of the police. It is obvious there is a certain level of language barrier and all could have been avoided with a bit of common courtesy rather than talking down at the public with so much intimidation and attitude. Yunus did not show any sign of aggression nor did not pose a threat to anyone, he felt under threat by the police so was hesitant in complying  and instead stood firm in seeking clarity as to why he was in the wrong or being arrested. There also seems to be emphasis on the minor grazing on the arm of the police, yet very light mention of the physical injuries and trauma sustained by Yunus.

Is this how police should deal with such issues? What next? For parking a car on a single yellow line. Do we not have parking attendants who are responsible for issuing tickets. We urge you to review all 4 videos that is available and draw your own conclusions. How may deaths have been caused with such behaviour over the last 10 years.

Why are police always late to real crimes like stabbings, murders, drug and gang related crimes, muggings etc the list goes on. If the public are under attack police are hardly ever on time to a scene, yet when police call for back up because they may be under threat the entire police force shows up to brutally beat a man which could have led to death.

We ask the local MP to ensure that he pursues this investigation which must be transparent. We implore the police to review all evidence before implying blame on Yunus. We urge the London mayor to review this incident and assess whether this is a way of improving relations with the police force.

This behaviour from the police must stop at once! These police officers must be reprimanded and made an example of. His crime maybe parking on a single yellow line. How do we then take the moral high ground and tell the rest of the world they have human right issues. Police should not feel limited with their powers in tackling crime but it must be proportionate to the event and circumstances.

It is sad that although I have started this petition I recognise that the authority will not take appropriate action, as it’s all about self protection. But nonetheless it is a way of the public raising their anger and concerns about the behaviour of the police force and be prepared to take independent legal action. This can be done through croud funding; only when a challenge is formally presented there maybe someone willing to hear.
