On September the 19th 2020, my Nephew and his Cousin (also his best friend) had gone out in to the town they grew up in for a few drinks, my Nephew had been in isolation most of lockdown as he was diabetic and considered high risk, so he was so glad to be able to go out and see his friends finally. He’d enjoyed a drink with his Father earlier in the evening and ended the night in a pub that seemed to be quite popular with locals at the time…
As they were making their way back home a young male confronted my Nephew , my other Nephew tried to stop anything happening, it appears that he’s trying to keep the two separate on the CCTV, however another male who had been watching/waiting (a few years older than them and known to the police, trains in boxing, has previous for battery and has an extremely violent record) came from behind unexpectedly and in just a few seconds punched one of my Nephews from behind with force killing him instantly and punched the other injuring his jaw.

This was a guy who had been working to improve his strength over previous months and there was evidence on his social media messenger, which unfortunately wasn’t allowed to be shown to the jury, that was focused on improving punch power. 

Although I know nothing can bring my Nephew back and no sentence would ever be enough, I truly believe that things need to change..during the sentencing the judge said it could have been anyone that night, the defendant was out to cause trouble and he had even been abusive to Police officers not long before it happened. 

My Nephew had never been in a fight or been in trouble with the police, he was a gentle giant..so loving and caring. 

As a Family we are broken, our lives will never be the same again..�

He has been sentenced but we don’t want anyone else to have to endure this pain..

WE NEED YOUR HELP….in signing this petition we want the parliament to consider increasing the maximum sentence for manslaughter, equal to that of murder.

By doing this it could prevent other victims  families having to go through the trial process and hear/see the awful events that  occurred.

The jury are not allowed to know of previous convictions prior to the verdict and on this occasion the defendant insisted to them that he was not a violent person, as the convictions were not disclosed to them, the Judge and The Police were powerless. Leaving the jury with limited information/facts to make such a big decision.
