Tougher Laws and Penalties to fight Crime against ShopKeepers in New Zealand
This petition had 879 supporters
Attacks on Dairy Shops, Liquor stores, Petrol Stations have become very frequent across New Zealand. Recent attacks on Jitesh and Preeti Arora's at their Mt Roskill dairy has left the couple traumatized. Jitesh suffered around 200 stitches on his right arm leaving him unable to use his right arm. The couple is now too scared to go back to their shop and fear that they might go bankrupt or be forced to sell their business.
Such attacks have become very frequent and repeatedly targeted towards shopkeepers who are working hard to make a living. Every other day you're seeing people in broad daylight, especially the teenagers, armed teenagers... they're entering into the dairies and they are assaulting the shopkeepers. And they loot and go.
This petition aims at calling out for tougher penalties and a review of police strategies towards such crimes. Leniency towards such offenders has caused such attacks to happen repeatedly and more frequently. It's time, the government should take a look into it seriously and better laws should be put in place to stop these attacks from happening. We seek at least 20,000 signatures to bring it to the attention of parliamentarian and the concerned authorities. Please sign this petition if you want to bring a change and make New Zealand a safer place for such businesses to prosper.
