Scott Gillin started this petition to Torrey Pines Community Planning Board

The stretch of Del Mar Heights Road between Mango Drive and Crest Drive is not safe for pedestrians or bicyclists. The speed limit is 40mph but most vehicles travel at close to 50mph.

Many requests have been made to the City of San Diego to look at traffic calming measures which include items such as raised medians, narrower traffic lanes, wider bike lanes and sidewalks, and a pedestrian bridge.

The City of San Diego has never conducted a safety study to look at possible traffic calming measures for this stretch of road and the side streets used to walk to the elementary schools.

Anytime a concern is raised over the speed of traffic on Del Mar Heights Road an evaluation is done to see if a stoplight can be installed.  Stoplights do not decrease the speed of cars or address the traffic calming measures needed.

It is time for us to make sure the City of San Diego knows that what the community wants is safety for pedestrians and bicyclists as well as efficient traffic flow. This should include Del Mar Heights Road between Mango Drive and Crest Drive. We also want improvements to the intersection of Mango Drive and Del Mar Heights Road, the addition or improvement of crosswalks and sidewalks leading to Del Mar Hills and Del Mar Heights Elementary schools.
