Make Toronto rain garden friendly
This petition had 100 supporters
Managing stormwater, as a result of unpredictable and localized intense rainfalls, at our homes is important to the sustainability and resilience of Toronto neighbourhoods and to healthy watersheds, urban waterways and Lake Ontario.
Therefore, we petition the TORONTO MAYOR and CITY COUNCIL to establish a new TORONTO FINANCIAL PROGRAM
to INCENTIVIZE the MANAGEMENT of STORMWATER on RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES >1hectare in size.
We, as residents of the City, need incentives to financially help us manage stormwater at our homes:
· To achieve effective downspout disconnection and de-paving;
· To install rain barrels, downspout planters, rain gardens, permeable sidewalks and driveways; and,
· To increase the number of Ontario Native trees and plants in the landscaping of our properties.
The whole City is the beneficiary of effective downspout disconnection, successful infiltration of rain and removal of stormwater from the separated and combined sewersheds.
