Petition update
Protest on Oct 29th
Oct 24, 2019 —
Dear supporters,
Thank you so much for signing the petition. We number well over 7000! This is a beautiful swell of support for trans women.
We have seen vocal protest from all of you, public statements from numerous individuals and groups like the Toronto Public Library Workers Union Local 4948, Canadian Parents of Trans and Gender Diverse Kids, Pride Toronto, Another Story Bookshop, City Councillor Mike Layton, authors Rachel Geise, Alexander Chee, and numerous cancellations of events and room bookings from writers and community groups including Ben Lerner earlier today. Despite the power and grace in the words gifted by Gwen Benaway, Niko Stratis and other trans women to the TPL Board at the meeting on Tuesday, the TPL Board has decided not to change their minds and will allow the room booking to the group hosting Meghan Murphy on October 29th at Palmerston Library.
This is not over. Pride Toronto is organizing a gathering/pre-protest before the event at 4 - 5:15 PM at the 519. They will bus people over to Palmerston Library to protest the event at Palmerston Library for 6 PM.
Here are details of the event at the library: https://www.facebook.com/events/427581324567314/
Please come! We need the numbers.
Stay tuned for other actions soon, including a teach-in!
Again, THANK YOU.
Keep fighting for people power!
