Reduce our Grade 4 & 5 class sizes at Churchill P.S.

Reduce our Grade 4 & 5 class sizes at Churchill P.S.
Why this petition matters
Public schools now account for 1 out of 3 active COVID-19 cases in Ontario yet the Grade 4 & 5 classrooms at Churchill Public School are over packed.
The TDSB class size average for junior grade students are 24.5 but our current class sizes remain well above the Board average of:
Grade 4: 31 + 2 ESL = 33 students (8.5 students above average)
Grade 4/5: 27 + 2 ESL = 29 students (4.5 students above average)
Grade 5: 29 + 2 ESL = 31 students (6.5 students above average)
These high classroom numbers are concerning for a number of reasons:
- COVID-19 safety protocols cannot be followed as students are seated less than 1 metre apart.
- Students with special physical needs require the adaquate space and attention for their safety.
- These classrooms have students with special needs, I.E.P's and behavioural issues who require more attention.
- General safety and ensuring all students are given a fair and positive learning environment.
We, the undersigned, are asking you, the Toronto District School Board, to grant Churchill P.S. one junior grade teacher; thus allowing us to reduce our Grade 4 & 5 class sizes.
Thank you
