Hope 24/7 started this petition to Toronto City Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam

The Canadian Association For Equality (CAFE), a “men’s issues” group that had and still has leadership tied to anti-feminist, misogynistic and far right-winged organizations like A Voice For Men (AVFM) and Rebel Media, has opened a shelter for men and children facing domestic violence called the Canadian Centre for Men and Families (CCMF). This organization claims that women ‘benefit’ from domestic violence shelters and they would like to "level the playing field” by opening a shelter where men facing abuse can take their children.

As an organization that works in the Violence Against Women sector, we understand that men often utilize children and the system against women in domestic violence situations. The CCMF claims to support all men and boys, but they cannot expect us to believe that they provide support to the most vulnerable communities of men while they continue to house leaders/workers that have spewed victim blaming, transphobia and rape apologist rhetoric. We are increasingly concerned that by using the guise of ‘advocating for men facing domestic violence’, the CCMF will create spaces that curate the continued victimization of women-identified folx.

We have started this petition to call for Toronto City Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam to pull the CCMF’s permit and help shut this shelter down! We would greatly appreciate you signing and then sharing this petition to your networks.

In Solidarity,
