We support wearing masks in public indoor and outdoor spaces, for all of our safety. This is for those who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing, those who may not speak the same language, older people, workers in noisy environments, children, people who have mental health issues and need some recognition.

“55% of communication is visual - traditional masks block faces and the ability to see facial expressions.” (Source: ClearMask https://www.theclearmask.com/product

We don't want to put people at risk by asking others to remove their masks for us to be able to understand what they are saying. This is also to avoid any miscommunication/misunderstanding. What Deaf and Hard of Hearing people generally do is, type on their phones to show what they want to say, and then the other person types back, another method we use is to write on a piece of a paper, and the others write back - but we cannot do this to avoid any transmissions of germs. In a noisy area, interacting with cashiers is difficult - now that they have glass barriers in between, we can't come any close to hear what they are saying, and we struggle with understanding them. This is frustrating for most of us who can hear but have a hard time in a noisy area.

We are not asking for much; we are just asking for our basic human right, to feel included and to make this better for our communities. We want people in public service, and customer service to wear transparent masks. Any helpful ideas given will be considered.

Many thanks!
