Whereas, the Toronto Catholic District School Board ("TCDSB") acknowledges explicitly many events to recognize and celebrate the diversity of its students (including but not limited to Ukrainian Canadian Heritage Month, African Canadian Heritage Month, International Women's Day, and Italian Canadian Heritage Month); and

Whereas, the TCDSB in its current distance learning phase is continuing to recognize and celebrate its students' diversity through events, such as Polish Heritage Day on May 3, 2020; and

Whereas, the TCDSB in its Equity Action Plan (p. 13) states the following: "In order to ensure equity of outcomes, we must address, with intentionality, persisting learning gaps for ... students who identify as LGBTQ or Two-Spirited;" and

Whereas, the TCDSB in its Equity Action Plan (p. 13) states the following: "We must continue to identify and eliminate discriminatory practices, systemic barriers, and bias from our classrooms, our schools, and our offices," with respect to LGBTQ students and other students identified as marginalized in its Equity Action Plan; and

Whereas, the TCDSB partook in a Toronto Public Health anonymous survey of its students in 2014 and, with intentionality, omitted questions relating to the identification of the sexual orientation and gender identity of its students, claiming that such intentionality was based on Catholic values; and

Whereas, the TCDSB's management with intentionality has chosen not to use the word homophobia in its social media messages to the public, to its schools and, most relevantly, to its students, including choosing not to include the word homophobia in social media messages related to important anti-bullying days such as International Day of Pink; and

Whereas, the recognition and celebration of LGBTQ students through an event is consistent with the TCDSB's explicit goal in its Equity Action Plan to "identify and eliminate discriminatory practices, systemic barriers, and bias" from its classrooms, schools, and offices; and

Whereas, the TCDSB's Code of Conduct, as it appeared before or after November 7, 2019, explicitly reminds the TCDSB to treat all students equally for their diversities, including LGBTQ students for their diversity; and

Whereas, there is no past or current event in the TCDSB's schedule to recognize and celebrate specifically its LGBTQ students for their diversity; and

Whereas, Pride Month is generally recognized as the primary event in Canada to recognize and celebrate the diversity of students who identify as LGBTQ; be it

Resolved, that the Toronto Catholic District School Board recognize and celebrate June 2020 as Pride Month.
