My daughter Mikayla used to love going to school, going to class and seeing her friends.
But then the bullying began. She started coming home from school upset, sometimes in tears. Like any parent, I was distraught. I spoke to the principal of Toormina High, and she told me that the school was already doing everything it could. But it kept getting worse, until it got so bad we decided to transfer her.
But the bullying is still going on at Toormina High. The Police have been called in more than once, and another parent just told me that his daughter was cornered after school by adult relatives of school kids, who threatened to physically hurt her.
Neither the school nor the Department of Education has done enough to stop this appalling violence, or ensure that people who commit assault have to answer to the full legal consequences of their actions.
Toormina High needs to take this seriously, and introduce mediation and compulsory counselling for bullies before any more kids are hurt. The Department of Education also needs to implement better policies to educate our kids in basic empathy, and how to relate to others. Please sign the petition, and help stop the violence.
