Support weekend and penalty rates for all Australian workers.

Hello, my name is Kevin, and these are my kids, Jordan and Thomas.

I work in hospitality in Perth. Where I work is open 24 hours a day, so I work nearly every weekend.

Because of that, I get weekend rates. The extra money means I can pay for things the boys need; school, clothes, food, and the mortgage.

Working weekends is a necessary sacrifice, as I often miss out on time with the boys; I miss their swimming lessons, and don’t get to participate in other activities: Birthday parties, and the boys’ scouting.

They often wonder why I can't be there; I hope that eventually they will understand that my sacrifice is for them.

Weekends are the time of week when friends and family get together. I want my boys to have all the opportunities they deserve in life. I sacrifice my weekend with them so that I can provide those opportunities.

But now the Government wants to cut my weekend rates. They want to cut my take home pay.

Weekend workers sacrifice their own special memories with family and friends so that everyone else's birthdays, anniversaries and celebrations with family are moments to remember forever.

Cutting our weekend rates means our sacrifice becomes too great.

If the Prime Minister told employers they had to keep paying weekend rates, it’d be okay.

But instead Tony Abbott says “if you don’t want to work weekends, then don’t.”

My work is open all week, so I don’t have a choice. If the Prime Minister gets his way, I’ll earn a lot less each week – and I’ll still miss out on watching my boys grow up.

This Saturday Tony Abbott will be in Perth.

I’ll be at work, but Jordan and Thomas have a letter they’d like to deliver to him, asking him to support weekend and penalty rates.

Please sign the letter below. Support Jordan and Thomas. Support weekend and penalty rates.

Tell the Prime Minister to do the right thing and support all workers and their families.

Thank you,
Kevin

Letter to Prime Minister:

I call on the Prime Minister Tony Abbott to make a public statement supporting weekend and penalty rates for all Australian workers.

Australian workers should be compensated for working nights, early mornings and weekends no matter what profession they are in.

Weekends still mean something and anyone who has to work on the weekend should be compensated for missing out on family time.

I support my fellow workers and do not want to see a class of working poor created because of attacks to penalty rates and the minimum wage.

Prime Minister, do what’s right by the Australian people. Save weekend and penalty rates for all workers.
