The Security of LGBTQ+ Students Rights in School and life.
As the leadership of the Fox Chapel GSA, we are extremely unsettled by the bills being passed in Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and Texas that target and remove the rights of LGBTQ+ students to be themselves.
Florida: "Don't Say Gay" bill, meaning teachers aren't allowed to teach or talk about many social struggles.
Texas: Passed a bill that said parents in trans affirming households were committing child abuse and authorized police and CPS/CYF to remove children in such houses.
We hope that the U.S. And PA State Government see that these bills are fundamentally unconstitutional. The Constitution says that All Men are created equal and are given certain inalienable rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. The bills passed by the states mentioned above prohibit the rights of LGBTQ+ students to live their lives to the fullest and effectively halts their pursuit of Happiness.
We hope that lawmakers in Pennsylvania and other states see that the bills being passed by their colleagues are wrong and detrimental to the health and safety of LGBTQ+ students, not just in their own states but in the entire country as well.
Our goal is that this petition secures freedoms and rights for Pennsylvanian LGBTQ+ students and, if possible, avoiding the other states bills becoming their laws.
