Traffic on County Road 12 (Shoreline Blvd) is steadily increasing, and with a new 99 home development by Winkler Development Co being imment.  The traffic on County Road 12 will surely increase as that is the only planned access point to the new development.  There was a traffic study done for the new development but it did not include a study of the intersection of Cty 12 and Hwy 17 just to the west of the proposed new development.  This intersection onto Highway 17 is already a very busy and difficult interesection to navigate in the morning and afternoon during peak hours.  Many people use 17 as a through fair to cities further south of Prior Lake and Shakopee.  With the new development traffic could nearly double at this intersection.

Just recently there was an accident at this intersection, luckily no one was hurt but the accidents are increasing.  Traffic on 17 is moving at highway speed of 55mph + and this intersection you have to come from a complete stop before entering to get up to speed.  This makes merging onto or off of Highway 17 difficult to say the least.

County road 12 is a busy street already as many people use this as a shortcut through to or from downtown prior lake.  The many residents that live on cty 12 and a few businesses drive a large amount of traffic at this intersection.

With the addition of this new development this intersection will clearly become a large problem for traffic accidents and safety in the near future.

We need this intersection to be looked at in depth by city and county developers and give that some consideration especially as new developments are likely happening nearby adding more pressure to the systems in place.  Maybe this needs to be a lighted intersection or other traffic control scenario.
