LWOP is wrong and inhumane. Ending this cruel sentence does not mean everyone will be released. It does mean everyone will have the opportunity to demonstrate their rehabilitation and ability to safely rejoin the community. Charles Manson did not have LWOP--he went to the parole board 12 times and was never released because he was still a danger to the public.
The Impartial And Fair Treatment And Parole Initiative (http://www.usainternationalmensday.blogspot.com) supports parole eligibility for souls serving life without parole sentences. "Life Without Parole" is the theme for the global observance of 2020 Impartial And Fair Treatment Of Parole Initiative on 29 August 2020. These souls have rehabilitated themselves and many of them have designed and co-facilitated research-driven and solutions-based initiatives which address and reduce gun violence, recidivism, street crime, the "school-to-prison" pipeline", intergenerational incarceration Fatherlessness, and poverty.
After so many years of good behaviour and being in that long, I feel these people deserve a second chance at life. Now im not saying people who brutally murdered people with no remorse.
I have a life long friend who is a lifer in the Pennsylvania system. I look forward to a day when his friends, family and community can profit from the growth that has occurred in his life. Our taxes have paid for this opportunity and we deserve to experience this community investment that increases our freedom.
