Include Public Education in the Democratic Party's Priorities

We believe that a strong, fully funded, equitable, and accountable public education system is important to our country and its future. Supporting public education should be a priority of the Democratic National Party.

We are deeply disturbed that in the Official 2017 Democratic Party Survey NONE of the potential answers mentioned public education. Out of 81 potential priorities, public education was listed ZERO times.

In a country where 9 out of 10 students, or around 50.4 million children, attend public elementary and secondary schools, we need our politicians to be placing public education as a top priority. Your survey highlights the fact that public education has not been a priority for the DNC.

In light of current events, we are asking you to place it as a top priority.  With Betsy DeVos confirmed as Secretary of Education, we are concerned that funding for public education will be diverted to private and charter schools at the expense of these public education students.

It is now, more than ever, that we need politicians at the local, state, and federal level to stand with and for our public schools. We need the Democratic National Committee to be at the forefront of working for a strong, fully funded, equitable and accountable public education system.
