Chronic Lyme Disease, currently known by the CDC as Post Treatment Lyme disease is the fastest growing epidemic infectious disease in the country, claiming more victims each year than HIV, A.I.D.S. and Cancer.
Those who suffer the effects of this illness on a daily basis, cannot receive medical treatment because the physicians who are daring enough to diagnose us risk losing their license due to the CDC and the IDSA's failure to recognize Chronic Lyme Disease as an actual illness. Because of this, we not only suffer the physical ramifications of this illness, we also suffer the mental, spiritual and financial disaster this illness causes. Through job loss, many of us live in abject poverty, being forced to do without much-needed medication and basic living necessities.
By re-opening the study of this illness and re-writing the current guidelines to include new diagnosis standards, those of us who are currently suffering and in many cases, dying, stand a better chance of finding affordable treatment, receiving insurance coverage and beginning the long road out of poverty and into recovery.
