It's not my fault-accountability for gun crimes

Arkansas does not have a child access prevention law. Which means when our children find a gun laying around (negligently stored) and accidentally shoot themselves or another person..or use the gun to shoot themselves with intent..the negligent person is not held accountable.
In states WITH a Child Access Prevention Law both accidental shootings as well as suicides are lower.
In most states this law stops protecting children when they are no longer under the age of 17...but I believe not only do we need to establish a CAPL in Arkansas we need to take it a step further. If a person is mentally unstable then precautions should be taken regardless of their age and a person who fails to secure their firearm should be held accountable.
