Why this petition matters

Started by We Matter Too

Systematic racism and discrimination are still issues in we face 2020. To combat systematic racism and discrimination, we are demanding that our federal and state governments review several current policies and legislative acts within the United States, as many laws have become outdated and hold certain groups of individuals back from growth. We are asking our government to reevaluate the Twelfth and Eighth Amendments to the United States Constitution; the crack/cocaine sentencing discrepancy; equal education and equal housing laws; the “Three Strikes You’re Out” laws; the “Stop and Frisk” laws; policies on body cameras for law enforcement and correctional officers; the “Stand Your Ground” laws; our state and local prison industrial system; the pervasive influence of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) and other poweful lobbying groups; the plea bargain structure; the continued display of statues honoring Confederate soldiers, officers, and the cause of the Confederacy;, the handling of criminal drug cases, the dismantling of the Obama Administration’s protections for transgender individuals at the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS); and Redlining laws.

We are asking the states of Minnesota, New Jersey, and New York to put into motion bills that would penalize a person for making a false police report that is motivated by a perception of a person’s race, color, nationality, sexual orientation, or disability, classifying such false reporting as a bias-motivated crime, punishable by one to five years in prison. We are asking the remaining 47 United States  to propose such bills in their respective legislatures.

We are asking all 50 United States to take action to equalize police patrol frequency among different communities in each state.

The overall goal of this petition is to dismantle systematic racism and racial discrimination within the United States of America, to help give equal opportunities to all humans in our country.
