Save The Charlie's Pie Shop Building at 2209 N. Central Street in Knoxville, TN

We respectfully request that decision makers with Dollar General choose another location for their store planned for 2209 N. Central Street in Knoxville, Tennessee. Construction as currently planned will destroy The Charlie's Pie Shop Building that has stood in the neighborhood since 1945. This important part of Knoxville's history and future should be spared and another development site chosen that will not destroy a historic building(s). This will give the Charlie's Pie Shop Building a second chance to be preserved and used by a new owner who sees its value to the North Knoxville Community.
This stretch of Central Street in North Knoxville is experiencing a renaissance with residents and businesses investing in a future for the neighborhood that celebrates and leverages its historic character. In addition, there are other sites in the area that are more appropriate for this type of development and do not contain historic buildings.
Here is information on the history of the building from Jack Neely, executive director of the Knoxville History Project: http://www.knoxmercury.com/2017/09/26/bump-easy-north-central-ideal-charlies-delicious-pies/
