This semester SUNY Plattsburgh has added a two-factor authentication for the safety of students' accounts. I signed up for this at the beginning of the semester, knowing that it was required. I wish I had waited until it was required. This is one of the most unnecessary and inconvenient things that I have ever experienced. This is also something that I literally have to deal with at least once a day when I login to my account. There's a "Remember me for 8 hours option," but it doesn't even work. How likely are students' to get hacked that we have to do this every time we login? What if I don't have my phone on me? What if I don't have phone service? What if my phone is dead? What if my phone is broken? If my phone is broken or dead, there's no way for me to get into my account. We already have slow-programmed computers which make it impossible to print anything in a timely manner -> So why add another inconvenience? As a student who has been on this campus for multiple semesters, I ask on behalf of the student community that you please REMOVE the two-factor authentication. I could go on about the slow programmed computers and how it takes 15-20 min just to print something, but that's a whole other issue. And don't even get me started on the fact that if I don't have my ID, I am UNABLE to get food even though workers can type in my ISO number. I live off campus and pay for a meal plan that I'm not even allowed to use and get food if I forgot my ID. I am hungry. It's inconvenient to walk home and walk back with my ID.
